02 — Overview

Bathroom Remodeling in Bethesda & Northwest DC

I've remodeled bathrooms in homes all across Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and upper Northwest DC. Many of these homes are fifty, sixty, seventy years old. I know what's behind the walls before I open them up -- galvanized pipes, outdated valves, layouts that don't make sense anymore. That's where I start.

When someone calls me about a bathroom remodel, the first thing I do is come out and look at the space with them. I want to understand what you're trying to accomplish. A bigger shower? A new tub? Moving the vanity to the other wall? I'll tell you what's involved, what the plumbing scope looks like, and what it's going to take -- before any work begins.

I don't pressure anyone into a bigger project than they need. That's not how I work. I'll lay out exactly what I'm going to do, what my partners will handle, and what the timeline looks like. You'll know the full scope before I pick up a wrench.

04 — Scope

What a Real Bathroom Remodel Looks Like

A lot of people call me and say, "I want to remodel my bathroom." But they're not sure what that actually means in practice -- what gets torn out, what gets moved, how long the bathroom is going to be out of commission. That's fair. Here's what a typical bathroom remodel involves when I do the work.

It starts with demolition. The old fixtures come out -- tub, shower, toilet, vanity. If we're changing the layout, I open up the walls and floor to access the plumbing. In older Bethesda and Northwest DC homes, this is often where we find galvanized pipes that need to be replaced or corroded valves that haven't been touched in decades.

Then comes the plumbing rough-in. This is the part most people don't see but it's the part that matters most. I move drains, run new supply lines, install new valve bodies, and make sure everything is up to code before the walls close up. This is my work -- I do it myself, start to finish.

What's Included in a Bathroom Remodel

  • Demolition and fixture removal
  • Plumbing rough-in and pipe relocation
  • Supply line replacement
  • Drain line work and rerouting
  • Shower and tub installation
  • Toilet installation
  • Vanity and sink installation
  • Faucet and valve installation
  • Shut-off valve replacement
  • Water damage assessment

After the rough-in is done and inspected, my partners handle the tile, drywall, and finish work. Then I come back to install the fixtures -- faucets, showerheads, toilets, sinks. The last thing I do is test everything and make sure there are no leaks. You get a finished bathroom that works and looks the way you wanted it to.

05 — Trusted Partners

Working With Trusted Partners

I'm a plumber, not a general contractor. I don't pretend to be. But when you hire me for a bathroom remodel, you're not going to be the one juggling three different contractors and hoping they show up on the right day.

Capitol Tile Designs

I work with Capitol Tile Designs for tile and finish work. I've done enough jobs with them to know their work is excellent and their timelines are reliable. I coordinate the schedule so the tile goes in after my rough-in is done and inspected, and I come back after they're finished to install the fixtures.

You deal with me. I handle the coordination. If something comes up during the project, I'm the one who calls you -- not a project manager you've never met.

Can a plumber really handle the full scope of a bathroom remodel? Here's how I think about it: I handle everything that involves water -- pipes, drains, fixtures, valves. That's the most critical part of any bathroom project. For the tile and finishing, I bring in people I've worked with and trust. The homeowner stays in control of every decision, and I stay accountable for the result.
