Burst pipe. Sewage backing up into your tub. No hot water in January. Flooding under the sink that won't stop. Active leak near your electrical panel. These are all situations where waiting a few days for an appointment makes the damage significantly worse.
I also take calls for things that feel urgent even if they're not flooding the house: a toilet that won't stop running, a water heater that died overnight, a leaking pipe behind the wall you just noticed. If it's keeping you up at night, call me.

What to Do While You Wait
Steps to Take Right Now
First: shut off the water. If it's a single fixture leaking, there's usually a shutoff valve right under the sink or behind the toilet. Turn it clockwise until it stops. If the leak is bigger or you can't find the fixture shutoff, go to your main shutoff and turn off the whole house. In most DC and Bethesda homes it's in the basement or utility room near where the water line enters the building.
Second: stay away from standing water if there's any chance it's near electrical outlets, panels, or appliances. Don't assume it's safe. If water is close to anything electrical, don't wade through it.
Third: if sewage is involved, don't run any water in the house. Don't flush, don't run the sink. It will make the backup worse. Open windows if you can and keep people out of the affected area.
Then call me. Once you've done what you can to stop the spread, I want to know what you're dealing with so I can come prepared with the right parts.
